Staging their seventh Macmillan Coffee event, many staff members took time to bake a wide choice of cakes, buns, scones and pastries, which were all gratefully appreciated by fellow employees who made cash donations to Macmillan Cancer Support.
In line with previous years, Spectra’s management team matched the final amount raised in support of their staff’s benevolent efforts.
Seen as Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event, national coffee morning donations from last year alone raised nearly £27 million, illustrating how vitally essential activities such as these are to major charities who continue to help people facing cancer.
Spectra’s Managing Director Joe Maynard said, “We are always hugely impressed with the lengths our staff go to in support several worthwhile charities. They continue to do it in their own time and off their own back, which we are proud of”.
Bringing millions of people together for coffee and cake each September, Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning has become a British institution over recent years, with thousands of events taking place up and down the country.
The first-ever Coffee Morning was staged back in 1990, and since then the annual event has raised over £200 million for Macmillan.
Routinely, Spectra staff get involved in a wide range of charity events to raise money. These include regular staff fundraising events for Macmillan Cancer Support, Children In Need and Samaritan’s Purse International Relief UK.
As a business, Spectra contributes regular donations to a breadth of worthwhile causes, including Cancer Research, East of England Ambulance Service, as well as funding support for local schools, sports clubs, fundraising marathon runners, village halls and playgrounds to name just a few.
The firm’s social responsibility commitments have been established over the years to increase overall engagement with the local community as well as employees and customers to create a greater connection with society.
Social responsibility is something Joe see’s as hugely important for Spectra.
He added, “It has always been the company’s aim to give something back, and our staff have enthusiastically bought into that ethos wholeheartedly, which is fantastic to see”.
