The event saw 14 members of staff, including the firm’s Managing Director, Joe Maynard, attempt the challenge in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
After several months of training at weekends on mostly flat East Anglian terrain, our intrepid team set off to traverse the three highest peaks in Yorkshire, climbing (and descending) a total of 5,200ft. The route ascended Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, each including equally arduous descents.
Most of the team completed the 24 miles (38.6km) challenge under the 12-hour target, with others setting their own personal goals, having never completed such a challenge before.
Stuart Buck, Supply Chain Manager at Spectra, who organised the event, said,
“From the outset, the response from colleagues was magnificent. Their enthusiasm for the challenge and desire to raise money for Macmillan was fantastic. It was truly a team effort, with each hiker putting in 100% effort and commitment. For all of us, to cross the finishing line was a huge achievement we can be proud of”.
On this occasion, staff pulled together with individual charitable donations and contributions through the company’s JustGiving page to amass an impressive £4,287.00 for MacMillan Cancer Support.
Indeed, our Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge JustGiving page earned us the title of Fundraising Legends and was one of the most successful in June, where out of thousands of fundraisers, our efforts put us in the top 10%.
The event follows other generous endeavours for Macmillan Cancer Support, including last year’s Spectra Bake-Off, where staff baked for charity. This event proved so popular it will go ahead again in September.
